Do not support remote control. This can be used with either –capture-image which would leave all images on the card, or –capture-image-and-download which captures and downloads the images immediately. Shutterspeed and Aperture not available in Auto or P setting, only in the more manual ones. These are 3 different relative stepsizes for both focusing directions.

Remote control with PTP and Python
The object will be focused; turn the ring a bit farther, and the object glhoto2 become blurred. For instance, it is a very good sign if the vendor supplies software that supports remote capture for this camera. An error will be reported if the end of the focus range is reached.
Replace 10s by the number of seconds you want to have your movie long. Another solution, which seems better, is to use morphological opening or closing. As a workaround for the focus measure not being absolute, I’ve implemented a slightly less easy-to-use procedure: All Powershots released after mid are not capable of remote control anymore.

The focus is computed from the central area of the image, having x pixels. To achieve the wanted focus, multiple calls might need to be done. Various cameras handle it differently. Those are likely able to be supported by libgphoto2 if not already. Minolta Dimage Z2 Do not support remote control.

The D outputs live preview frames which are x pixels. My g;hoto2 estimates the amount of focus on the live preview image, and takes a picture when it detects a peak well, almost. PTP Contents [ show ].
